What lens care solution should I recommend to my patients who wear ACUVUE® contact lenses?

Any U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared soft contact lens solution can be used with any soft ACUVUE® contact lenses.

ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™

What makes ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ lenses unique?

ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ Light Intelligent Technology™ is the first-of-its-kind contact lens to deliver superior visual performance* your patients can see and feel.1,2,3

This lens combines the proven comfort and visual performance of ACUVUE® with seamless adaptation to light, day to night.*,1,2 3

Adaptation to changing light

  • Seamlessly adapts to light, indoors and out3
How does the ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ Light Intelligent Technology™ work?

These contact lenses quickly and seamlessly adjust from clear to dark and back in response to changing light. The lenses are activated by exposure to UV, and HEV light.3

What is the average time the lens takes to darken when exposed to outdoor light? What is the average time it takes to fade back, once no longer exposed to that light?

Activation and fade back time of the lens is dependent on a number of factors. ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ begins to darken as soon as it is exposed to UV and/or HEV light and is dark in under a minute. The typical time to fade back when on the eye is within 90 seconds.3

Can the lenses be worn in heat and cold? Are they affected by body temperature?

Yes, the lenses can be worn in various cold and hot temperature conditions. When worn, these lenses are constantly maintained at eye temperature. Therefore, environmental temperature would not have an effect with on-eye photochromic performance (activation, darkness, and fade rates).3,6

Does it work behind the windshield?

Activation behind a car windshield will be limited. The photochromic material reacts to UV light, and car windshields block nearly 100% of UV light. There may be some activation based on its ability to react to High Energy Visible (HEV) light and the level of UV light transmitted through the side windows. It is important to note that ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ is not a replacement for sunglasses but can be worn with non-prescription sunglasses.3

Can I wear these lenses when I’m driving?

Yes, these lenses can be worn while driving—during the day or at night.4,6

What is it made of? Materials, is it a surface coating?

It is not a surface coating. This first-of-its-kind contact lens is built using the proven ACUVUE® OASYS (senofilcon A) material combined with Transitions™ Light Intelligent Technology™ (photochromic additive) throughout the lens.3

Can the photochromic additive leak out of the lens?

Similar to the UV blocker‡, ∞ in all ACUVUE® lenses, the photochromic material within ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ is permanently bound throughout the lens and does not come out of the material.3

Can the photochromic additive lose performance over time?

Yes, the lenses can lose some photochromic performance over time if they are not properly stored. Lenses must be stored away from direct sunlight, as indicated on the label. If properly stored, there should be no noticeable impact in performance during the two weeks of daily wear, for which these contact lenses are indicated.1

What is the UV protection level?

ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ is the only contact lens that provides 100% protection against UVB rays, and it has the highest level of UV protection in a contact lens.‡,∞,3,5 Although the contact lenses provide important UV-blocking protection for patients, it should not be viewed as a stand-alone solution. Contact lenses should always be worn in conjunction with high-quality UV-blocking sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat for maximum UV protection for the eyes.

Helps protect against transmission of harmful UV radiation to the cornea and into the eye.

WARNING: UV-absorbing contact lenses are NOT substitutes for protective UV-absorbing eyewear such as UV-absorbing goggles or sunglasses because they do not completely cover the eye and surrounding area. You should continue to use UV-absorbing eyewear as directed. NOTE: Long-term exposure to UV radiation is one of the risk factors associated with cataracts. Exposure is based on a number of factors such as environmental conditions (altitude, geography, cloud cover) and personal factors (extent and nature of outdoor activities). UV-blocking contact lenses help provide protection against harmful UV radiation. However, clinical studies have not been done to demonstrate that wearing UV-blocking contact lenses reduces the risk of developing cataracts or other eye disorders. Consult your eye care practitioner for more information.

Do the lenses filter blue light?

ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ actively balances the amount of light entering the eye, including the filtering of blue light.^,¥,5 The lens dynamically adapts due to light conditions; therefore, the blue light filtering will vary. This lens is dynamic and adapts to filter light across the visible spectrum. Regarding blue light, it depends on the environment the wearer is in and the specific source of the blue light—like the sun. Indoors, the lens can block up to 15% of light indoors (with an emphasis in the High Energy Visible range) and up to 55% outdoors when exposed to sunlight, where your patients need it most.3,5 These measures are calculated within the range with the highest energy across the blue light hazard.^,¥,5

Why ACUVUE® OASYS reusable? Why 2 week?

We believe in the two-week modality and will continue to innovate in this space. The majority of contact lens wearers are in reusable lenses and this was built on the #1 global brand, ACUVUE® OASYS, never beaten in comfort.λ,7 The reusable modality also puts this innovative technology within reach from an affordability perspective.

Are the lenses available without vision correction (i.e., plano)? Would I still need to go to an optometrist to get a prescription?

The lenses are available in 0.00 power, meaning that they would not provide vision correction. Prescription requirements for contact lenses vary across different markets.

What are the lens parameters?

Lens Powers: -12.00 to +8.00

Base Curve: 8.4 and 8.8

Material: senofilcon A2

How long can I wear these contacts? Is there a time limit?

ACUVUE® OASYS Contact Lenses with Transitions™ are indicated for daily wear (frequent replacement) and are intended to be worn for up to two weeks (14 days).

How should the lenses be stored and/or cleaned?

Consult with an eye care professional for proper wear and care of lenses. Lenses must be stored away from direct sunlight as indicated on the label. If the lenses are not stored properly, they may lose some photochromic performance. If stored properly, there should be no noticeable impact in performance during the 2 weeks of daily wear, for which the lenses are indicated.6

What is the best contact lens solution to use for cleaning and caring for lenses?

ACUVUE™ RevitaLens is a great match with leading contact lenses, including ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses. In fact, clinical studies show that the combination of ACUVUE™ RevitaLens MPDS and ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses resulted in all-day comfort and healthy ocular surface physiology.8

How does the comfort compare to ACUVUE® OASYS 2-Week?

ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ is reported to be as comfortable as ACUVUE® OASYS with HYDRACLEAR® PLUS.8 This is because ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ was developed on the ACUVUE® OASYS platform, which has never been beaten in comfort.λ,2

Does this lens improve color contrast?

Yes. With this contact lens, life looks more vivid, more vibrant and more true by providing up to 38% better color contrast.*,5 Enhancing contrast, including enhancing chromatic contrast with a spectral filter such as ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™, may improve overall spatial vision through better detection of the edges of objects in a scene.

Will the lens thickness differential across the ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ Light Intelligent Technology™ SKU range of powers effect the tint and activation/deactivation speed?

Yes. Based on the variations of the optic zone thickness profile due to the power differences, you may notice the peripheral portion of the lens will be darker. This is only noticeable off eye and depending on how activated the lens. The thickness affects the darkness due to the increased pathlength (more lens volume means more photochromic molecules in that region). Our transmittance data (% blocking) performance is only based on the optic zone of the lens.

The thickness of the lens does NOT affect the speed of activation or fade rate. This is always constant at a given temperature.3

Would a patient need to be re-fitted for ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ if they are already an ACUVUE® OASYS wearer?

The lens design, including base curve and diameter of ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ is the same as ACUVUE® OASYS 2-Week. Doctors can be confident that there is a smooth and effortless fit between ACUVUE® OASYS and ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™.2,9

Does this lens have a larger optic zone?

While this varies across the SKU range, the majority of ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ has an enlarged optic zone, up to 20% larger versus ACUVUE® OASYS 2-week.

How does it look on my eye? Does it get dark? Does it change the color of my eyes?

The contact lens becomes darker when activated by UV and/or HEV light.3 They were specifically designed to provide patient benefits while minimizing the change to the appearance of the eye.±,3,10 ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ is clear indoors.

While outdoors the level of activation is always changing in response to the light, so in most situations the lens isn’t in the darkest state. The contact lens also quickly fades back to clear when you come inside within 90 seconds on average.6 The fade time once back indoors may vary based on how activated the lenses were, the indoor lighting conditions (e.g. sunlight through a window versus standard artificial indoor lighting), the color of the iris and the aperture of the eye. For those with lighter-colored irises, it may take longer to perceive the clear state of the lenses due to the contrast on the eye.*,3,11

Can they be worn while playing sports?

Yes, just like any other ACUVUE® Brand contact lenses, these lenses can be worn during sports or exercise.

Do I still need to wear sunglasses when I wear ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™?

Yes. While these lenses do provide UV**,^ protection to the areas they cover, other parts of the eye and surrounding areas are still exposed to UV light. For that reason, ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ are not intended as a replacement for sunglasses. The lenses can be worn with non-prescription sunglasses and should be considered a part of a total light management suite of solutions.3
